Brits in the WSOP Main Event, 888 Lands a November Niner and More

Around UK Online PokerIn this installment of Around UK Poker we’ll get you caught up on all of the latest updates now that the 2013 World Series of Poker is on its official four-month hiatus.

We’ll start by taking a look at how UK poker players fared in the biggest poker tournament of the year, and we’ll also bring you some final table sponsorship news for one of the UK’s biggest online poker sites, 888 Poker, as well as taking a look at the tournament action on the other side of the Atlantic that has picked up where it left off before the WSOP began some two months ago.

WSOP Last Brit Standing Phillip Long Finishes in 29th Place

There won’t be any UK players at the 2013 World Series of Poker final table, but a half-dozen Brits did manage to make very deep runs in the tournament –finishing in the Top 100 spots—with Phillip Long being the top-placing Brit in the field with a 29th place showing.  While there weren’t any big names among the top British finishers, the UK definitely left their mark on the 2013 Main Event.

Here is a look at the six British poker players who made the Top 100 at the 2013 WSOP Main Event:

  • 29th place: Philip Long — $229,281

  • 49th place: Oliver Price — $151,063

  • 50th place: Sebastian Gohr — $151,063

  • 59th place: Steven Watts — $123,597

  • 77th place: Kevin Williams – $84,786

  • 92nd place: Eli Heath — $59,708

Overall, the 2013 WSOP was a very successful one for UK poker players, as they picked-up two bracelets (one by Matthew Ashton and one by Matt Perrins) including the coveted Poker Players Championship, which was won by current WSOP Player of the Year leader Matthew Ashton.

888 Poker snatches up Jay Farber and Chris Lindh

During the run-up to the 2013 WSOP final table sponsorship deals were being struck at the tables and 888 Poker was quick to patch up two of the bigger chip-stacks in the field on Day 6, in the form of Chris Lindh and Jay Farber. 888 was rewarded with a lot of featured table time from Lindh (who busted in 16th place) and a final table run by Farber, who is currently sitting in 4th place overall with just under 26 million chips.

According to his PokerListings.com bio, Farber is an amateur poker player who works as a VIP Host/Nightclub Promoter in Las Vegas. With a mere $2,000 in career tournament earnings Farber is a dark horse in the tournament, but his play thus far indicates a far better understanding of the game than his resume would lead us to believe. Considering the players who have wished him well on Twitter, Farber should definitely be taken seriously by the other November Niners.
