If you have recently joined Bet365 Poker (and if you haven’t it is easy to do so by claiming the Bet365 no deposit bonus available on the previous link) then you may well have noticed that there is a rather enticing tournament available to play. These are Knockout tournaments with a twist in that if you knockout a player, you receive a cash prize for doing so.
Although this form of poker has been available on other sites for quite some time (Sky Poker in particular offers a wide range of what it calls Bounty Hunter games), they are a relatively new phenomenon on the Bet365 Poker site and app. Let’s take a look at these Bounty Knock-out Tournaments and learn a little more about how they work and how they could be a very profitable way to play for many tournament poker fans.
What is a Bet365 Bounty Knock-out Tournament?
The important thing to realise here is that this type of tournament can be played under different rules on different sites. Certainly the type of bounty hunter games you find on Sky Poker are played under a slightly different set of rules compared to the new games added to Bet365 Poker recently, although generally how the games operate remain very similar.
On Bet365, the Bounty Knock-out Tournament sees players pay a buy in (let’s say of €20 in total) and usually on a standard tournament, 10% of your tournament buy in is the tournament fee paid to Bet365 Poker, in this case €2. Usually, this would mean your contribution to the prize pool is therefore €18.
However, in the new style Bounty Knock-out Tournaments available at Bet365, you still pay your €2 tournament fee to the site owners, but your €18 buy in is instead split equally between the bounty on your head and your contribution to the cash pool.
What this means is that if you entered a €1,000 Knockout Tournament on Bet365 Poker for a €20 buy in, the breakdown of how your money is allocated would be:
- €2 in Tournament fees
- €9 is your prize pool contribution
- €9 is your Bounty
- €2 + €9 + €9 = €20 total buy in
Once you have paid the buy in and joined a tournament, all you need to then do is wait for the start time of the tournament to be reached and the table will load up ready for you to play. Only instead of eliminating players to progress further in the tournament, you also now need to eliminate players to claim the bounties on their head too.
How does having bounties on players heads affect the gameplay of a poker tournament?
Of course, with only half of the buy in (minus the tournament fee) going towards the prize pool, this means that there is around half of what would ordinarily be the prize pool money on the players heads in the tournament. That money is simply waiting for someone to claim it by eliminating one or more players from the tournament.
In Bet365, the bounty payouts are calculated very simply. If you eliminate a player, then you receive their bounty added to your cash available. So in the example above, for every player you eliminate in a tournament, you would receive a €9 bounty.
Of course, having paid €20 to enter the tournament, this means that you only need to eliminate three players during the course of the event in order to earn yourself a guaranteed profit, although that can be more difficult than it looks.
The more players you eliminate, the more bounties you claim and the greater the profit you can make from bounties alone. That profit can then be added to further if you manage to land one of the cash prizes available from the prize pool in the same tournament. However, it is entirely possible to still make a sizeable profit from a tournament from claiming bounties alone, without ever reaching the latter stages.
The effect of this however is that in these events, players are always looking for chances to eliminate opponents, which means that you can often find several players calling a short-stacked player who has gone all in, even if they don’t have a great hand, as they feel the risk of losing a few chips is worth it if they can perhaps claim the bounty if the cards turn their way.
As such, this does mean when a player is at risk of being eliminate by being short-stacked, players will be more willing to take them on in the hope of claiming their bounty. This means a far wider range of hands can be played and as such, does make claiming bounties more difficult at times.
These games are ideal for more aggressive players who like to get their chips in the middle and take on and eliminate opponents. Of course, a solid hold’em strategy and strong poker skills are also invaluable, but this is a game that tends to rewards risk-takers a little more than a standard tournament.
What stakes can I play for at Bet365 Poker in the new Bounty Tournaments?
Bet365 have organised a number of different buy in levels for their Bounty Tournaments and there are also a number of prize pool games available ranging from €200 up to €1,000.
Typically, you can play these games at Bet365 Poker for the following buy in levels:
- €3
- €5
- €10
- €20
The ratio of how your buy in is divided up between the tournament fee, prize pool contribution and your bounty remains the same regardless of the amount of buy in that you pay to enter a tournament.
These tournaments are available throughout the day on Bet365 Poker with a range of different buy in levels and a range of prize pools available across the day. Also, you can buy in for lower amounts and play for larger prize pools, or pay a larger amount and play for a smaller prize pool as the tournaments are mixed around in this way to give players more choice.
However, it is worth noting that low buy in events with a higher prize pool do tend to attract more players, which mean they are tougher to win but on a positive note, does mean that you stand more chance of earning more bounties within the tournament.
Bounty Knock-out Tournaments are an exciting new addition to the Bet365 Poker line up following hot on the heels of hugely popular games like Twister Poker and Six-Plus Hold’em. Why not give these popular tournaments a try now and see if you can take down a few bounties and earn yourself a profit?
