Mobile Poker Client Review – Bwin Poker

Review of bwin MobilePerhaps best known for their sponsorship of top soccer club Real Madrid, Bwin are a European company that first came to prominence thanks to its broad sports betting options.

They have since branched out into the world of online poker and to accompany their Bwin Poker website, have recently launched their first mobile poker client for iPhone, iPad and Android.

In this review, we’ll take a close look at the Bwin Poker mobile app, what it offers to a range of poker players of different needs and abilities and lastly, how this app compares to some of the other most popular mobile poker clients currently available for download.

Bwin Mobile Poker Software At-A-Glance

Device Support –  The Bwin Poker Mobile client is available for iPhone, iPad and Android mobile devices.

Access – The Bwin Poker Mobile client is freely available from all leading App stores for both Apple and Android devices as well as being freely downloadable from the Bwin Poker website (which you can visit via your mobile’s browser device initially before downloading).  Once installed, you can access the Bwin Poker client by a single tap of the icon on your mobile device.

Games Available – There are basically two options available in the Bwin Poker app. Players can either play against other poker players for Play Money, or they can play at a cash table for Real Money. The FastForward option on the main screen (as shown above) simply seats you more quickly at a cash table, using your most frequently selected options for playing.

Any other software restrictions – There are no restrictions on the poker app as such, but you cannot quickly transfer from the Bwin Poker site to the Sports Betting site, even though your account allows you access to both.

Bwin Mobile Poker – Overview

Once you have located the app from your chosen site, downloading onto any device, whether iOS 7 or Android, is very quick and easy.bwin for iPhone and iPad

Once installed, logging in, or registering as a new player, is generally quick, though it is worth noting that completing the registration form on a smaller handset (such as a smartphone) is much more awkward than on a tablet or similar, chiefly due to the small design of the input boxes on the sheet.

After you are registered, logging in is quick and easy as the app will remember your login name, leaving only the password to be entered. The initial home screen of the app is simple, but eye-catching with a yellow and black design that does catch the eye.

There are four options you can select from once you have entered the site.

Real Money allows you to select the parameters to join a Real Money table. FastForward takes you to a Real Money cash table, using your most often selected parameters, or the optimal blind level depending upon how much cash you have in your account.

The two grey areas are Play Money, which allows you to play for pretend cash against other players while Preview shows you how the Bwin app software works and takes you through a semi-interactive tutorial that shows you how to play the game via your chosen mobile device.

Selecting the Real Money option brings up the Real Money option screen which allows you to select the type of game you want to play (Fixed Limit, No Limit or Pot Limit, with No Limit set as the default selection).

You can also define the number of players you prefer to play against at a table (2, 6, 9 or 10) and the stakes that you wish to play for  from one of seven different levels:

  • $0.01/$0.02

  • $0.02/$0.04

  • $0.05/$0.10

  • $0.25/$0.50

  • $0.50/$1

  • $1/$2

  • $2/$4

In addition, your current balance (in your chosen currency) is shown. Once you have selected your table parameters, click Play Now and the app will place you at an available seat based on your selections.Play Bwin on Mobile

Once the table is loaded up you can clearly see your cards and your opponents at the table, although it has to be said the background is a little dark.

This does however make for good contrast when the cards are dealt. Following the action is relatively easy too and there are several options available to customise your device (such as independent colours for suits), to allow you to tailor the look of the game to your needs.

The games themselves can be very varied, on some tables, the action can be thick and fast with lots of money going into the pot each hand, on others, it can be much slower paced with little contested in each pot.

During the review process we encountered no problems whatsoever with any financial transactions, including depositing and withdrawing cash or updating your account balance when you join a cash table, or when you win cash.

All the transactions listed above were completed swiftly and accurately.

Bwin Mobile Poker – The Positive Points

If you enjoy playing poker in arguably its purest form, the cash tables, then the Bwin app certainly offers some positives when playing via a mobile device.

  • The app is easy to find and download and registering is quick and easy.

  • The FastForward option is a good option and saves time entering the same data each time you log in to play at the same cash tables.

  • The semi-interactive preview is a great way to get players to understand the app who may not have played mobile poker before.

  • The site’s design in black and yellow is eye catching and there is excellent contrast when cards are displayed at the table.

  • There are lots of different games available for a variety of stakes, ensuring that you can play just for smaller cash, or larger sums, depending on your ability and bankroll.

  • The ability to select the number of people at your table is also a positive, given that some people prefer larger tables with more players, whereas others may prefer smaller numbers of players or even heads-up games.

Bwin Mobile Poker – The Negative Pointsbwin on Android

While there was a lot to enjoy about the Bwin Mobile Poker App, there are also a few glaring omissions which really impact how broad and long term its appeal will be to poker players in general.

The major concerns found when reviewing the app included:

  • There are a significant lack of options compared to other poker clients. With no Multi Table Tournaments, Sit & Go games, or even Speed tables to select from, the app will only really appeal to poker players who only want to play at the cash tables. While cash table play is enjoyable, there are a significant number of players who prefer to grind out their wins playing in Sit & Go events and MTTs. The lack of these alternatives on the app is a huge negative point.

  • A more minor issue is the fact that players cannot select which tables to join and that the Bwin software just places you at the table it sees as most fitting your options. This is particularly annoying if you want to play against friends online and have to hope that the software places you at the same table.

  • While the representation of the poker table itself is fine, the graphics are hardly groundbreaking. We’ve also found that you frequently find yourself short of players at tables, meaning if you have put you want to play against 6 other players, you may only end up playing against three. We also found that a large number of players tend to leave tables quite quickly, meaning it is difficult to get a sustained game going on the site unless you get lucky and land at the right table.

Bwin Mobile Poker – The Conclusion – 6/10

As a cash table mobile poker app, the Bwin Mobile Poker offering has lots going for it. There’s lots of good options for cash tables, different types of limit games, the ability to choose the number of opponents and more. If you are a cash table fan, then the app is certainly worth a look.

However, if you are a player who enjoys playing other versions of poker, such as Sit & Go games, or MTTs then the Bwin Mobile Poker app is not going to cut the mustard. The lack of these options on the app significantly devalues its long term appeal to the wider poker player market.

That is  shame because the app itself has been well designed and while the graphics are not groundbreaking, they contrast well and are serviceable. It plays equally well on smaller devices as well as larger tablets.

This app is similar to the Bet365 app we reviewed earlier, but even lacks the Speed Poker option that Bet365 includes, as such, although we prefer the look of the Bwin app, we can’t give it a better mark, hence its 6/10 rating.
