Could You Be One Of Sky Poker’s Bounty Hunter Champions?

From Monday 2nd January, through until Sunday 29th January 2017, Sky Poker are on a quest and that is to discover which of their customers is the best Bounty Hunter poker player on the Sky Poker site.

To do that Sky Poker are running a special promotion simply called Bounty Hunter Champion. This is an offer which any Sky Poker customer can opt in to via the button on the promotional page for the offer on the Sky Poker website. Once opted in then you can start taking on all the other players competing for a chance at a wide range of top prizes.

However, it is fair to say that Bounty Hunter poker is a very different game to the typical type of Texas Hold’em you would play in a Sit & Go, MTT or Cash Table game. The reason for that is that Bounty Hunter poker has a slightly different emphasis on where the money can be won and as such, that does require a different mindset than you would have for the other game types.

So before we examine Sky Poker’s offer in detail, let’s learn a little more about Bounty Hunter Poker on the Sky Poker site.

How does Bounty Hunter poker differ to other formats of the game?

The key element in Bounty Hunter poker is that your buy in is not all placed in the prize pool. A certain percentage is added to the prize pool (on Sky Poker, it is usually 50%) with the remainder placed on your head as a bounty. Every player has the same bounty when they start the game and the aim of the game is for players to eliminate other players, thus claiming their bounty (and increasing the money they make in the game) while trying to reach the latter stages of the tournament to qualify for a cash prize too.

This is a change of emphasis from standard other games of poker where the aim is to remain in the tournament for as long as possible to give yourself a better chance at cashing out. In Bounty Hunter poker, you can be eliminated early from a tournament, but still make a profit, if you can knock out enough of the other players in the game.

You achieve this simply by being the player that wins the hand that sees a player lose all of their remaining chips. When this happens, you claim the bounty on their head.

This means a slight change in mindset from a more defensive approach, to one where players will want to take on opponents (especially those that are short-stacked) in the hope of eliminating them and claiming their bounty.

Remember too, in Sky Poker, a percentage of every bounty won is added to your own bounty, thus your bounty increases in size and makes you a target for other players that would like to eliminate you and claim your bounty for themselves.

The net result of this is a game where having a large number of chips increases your strength at the table and where plenty of action is commonplace, especially when one or more of the people involved in the hand are short-stacked.

So how will Sky Poker discover who is their Bounty Hunter Champion?

In order to discover who their best Bounty Hunter player is, Sky Poker are hosting three Bounty Hunter events each night throughout January. The competition is split into your different qualifying weeks starting from:

  • Week 1 – Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th January
  • Week 2 – Monday 9th to Sunday 15th January
  • Week 3 – Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd January
  • Week 4 – Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th January

Every week, there will be leaderboards kept for each of the three different Bounty Hunter tournaments held each night and these leaderboards will be updated after each tournament and then reset at the end of the week following the conclusion of Sunday night’s tournaments.

The three events held each night are detailed in the table below:

Event Buy In Start Time Guaranteed Prize Pool
Bounty Hunter Champion MAIN EVENT £33 20:00 GMT £10,000
Bounty Hunter Champion MINI EVENT £5.50 20:30 GMT £2,500
Bounty Hunter Champion HIGH ROLLER £110 19:45 GMT £10,000 (increased to £15,000 each Sunday)

You can enter as few or as many events as you like each night and throughout the week. Once you have opted in, then Sky Poker will keep a track of your performance in any of the events you enter and your position on the leaderboard will be updated after the conclusion of each daily event.

There are the following prizes on offer every week for the players that finish in the top positions of the leaderboard, in addition to the prizes shown above for each tournament:

  • Main & Mini Event Leaderboard – £2,000 Prize Pool guaranteed (same structure for both tournaments)

After the completion of each of the three tournaments each day, the leaderboard will be updated with the names of players that have earned enough bounties to see themselves earn a place on the table. Over the course of the week players will move up and down the table based on how many bounties they claim in each of the three events until after Sunday’s events, the final positions in each of the three Leaderboards are known.

After this Sky will dish out the prize money to the winning players, usually within 24 hours of the completion of the tournament week, and a new set of tournaments will begin on the Monday night of the following week.

The Bounty Hunter Champion promotion is one that any Sky Poker player who enjoys this popular form of the game on the site will really enjoy and with four separate qualifying weeks to play in, you still have plenty of time to participate and see if you can earn yourself the title of Sky Poker’s Bounth Hunter Champion of 2017.
