Before we preview this weekend’s forthcoming fixtures in the Premier League, let’s take a look at how the matches played last weekend panned out to put these forthcoming matches into a greater context.
Matchday 2 Results
- Cardiff City 0-0 Newcastle United
- Tottenham 3-1 Fulham
- West Ham 1- 2 Bournemouth
- Leicester City 2-0 Wolves
- Everton 2-1 Southampton
- Chelsea 3-2 Arsenal
- Manchester City 6-1 Huddersfield Town
- Burnley 1-3 Watford
- Brighton 3-2 Manchester United
- Crystal Palace 0-2 Liverpool
Most notable amongst the results last week was Manchester City’s drubbing of Huddersfield Town and their closest city rivals Manchester United going down 3-2 away to Brighton and Hove Albion, the second year in a row United have been defeated on the South Coast.
Spurs, Liverpool, Watford, Chelsea and Bournemouth all followed City in maintaining their 100% starts with another win, however at the other end of the table, Arsenal, Fulham, West Ham and Huddersfield are the only teams without a point so far. Cardiff City are yet to score a Premire League goals this season, while Liverpool are the only team yet to concede a goal.
Let’s now take a look at how these results affected the table.

Other Top Premier League Weekend Bets
Alongside these single Full Time Result bets, or the accumulator, there are a number of other enticing bets that I would consider.
Wolves v Manchester City – Manchester City to win and Both Teams to Score – Even Money
Wolves have shown they have some real quality in their team, but City are a class apart and they should win at Molyneux relatively comfortably, however I can see the home side grabbing a goal as I am not convinced the City defence is the most watertight in the division.
Arsenal v West Ham- Asian Handicap – Arsenal -1.5 goals at Even Money
Arsenal showed last week against Chelsea that when they go forward they can cause even the top teams real problems, and the Gunners real issues have been defensively so far. However they are at home against a West Ham side sorely lacking form and confidence and I think as such, Arsenal will bounce back here with a good win and I’d expect that to be by at least two goals.
Huddersfield Town v Cardiff City – Huddersfield to win and Both Teams to Score – 9/2
Huddersfield have had a dreadful start but faced both Chelsea and Manchester City in their opening two games, Cardiff have had it much easier, but still have just the one point and are yet to score a goal. For me, this is a game the home side will be targeting to win and I think they will do that, but I also feel defensively they give teams a chance, which is why I feel Cardiff will break their Premier League duck at the John Smith’s Stadium, even if they don’t collect their first win.
Watford v Crystal Palace – Draw and Both Teams to Score – 10/3
Although Watford have had a brilliant start to the season, I think Palace are a much stronger team nowadays and of the two, I feel they are the better squad of players. However, Watford will be flying following two wins in their opening games and this could make them really dangerous. As such I think a draw is a very good bet here and the fact you can add both teams to score to get a better than 3/1 price, makes this a solid bet for me.
Manchester United v Tottenham – Romelu Lukaku – Anytime Goalscorer – 6/4
United’s big Belgian striker got off the mark in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton and he’ll need to lead the United line well against a very well marshalled Spurs back line. That said, Fulham gave Spurs a few issues last week and United will be desperate to bounce back with a win. Add to that Spurs shocking record at Old Trafford and I think United will just edge the win here and if they do, I am betting Lukaku will be the man on the scoresheet at some point.
