Premier League Matchday 2

The new set of fixtures for Matchday 2 in the Premier League sees the biggest game of the weekend taking place at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host London rivals Arsenal in what is already something of a crucial game for the Gunners after their 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City last weekend. Defeat here would leave them pointless after two games and six points behind some of their most fierce rivals.

Manchester City have a relatively comfortable afternoon in prospect on Sunday as they face Huddersfield at the Etihad in a game they should win comfortably, while Manchester United travel to the south coast to take on Brighton. The action is completed with the first Monday Night game of the new season as Crystal Palace host the early-season pace-setters Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

Let’s now take a look at the latest odds on these games with bet365 Sport.

Our Top Premier League Tips

Outlined below we have given you our three tips for each game on three key markets, the Full Time Result, Correct Score and Anytime Goalscorer markets, with the odds provided once again by bet365 Sport and correct as of 3pm UK Time on Wednesday August 15 2018.

  • Cardiff City v Newcastle United

Full Time Result – Draw

Correct Score – 1-1 (11/2)

Anytime Goalscorer – Jonjo Shelvey (13/2)

This looks like being a real war of attrition between two teams whose two managers really do not get along. Cardiff will have home advantage, but I think Newcastle have the stronger squad, hence I think a draw is a solid bet here and a score draw is most likely. Set pieces could be crucial and that is why I have selected Jonjo Shelvey as a potential scorer of a Newcastle goal here.

  • Everton v Southampton

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 2-0 (8/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Theo Walcott (12/5)

I thought Everton were excellent against Wolves last week, especially after playing most of the game with 10-men, Southampton were less impressive against Burnley and I’m really not sure Mark Hughes is the answer at St Mary’s. Everton though look much improved and while defensively they still look suspect, they should get a solid win here by a couple of goals and I fancy Theo Walcott to open his account for the season.

  • Leicester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 3-1 (18/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Demarai Gray (3/1)

A rare Midlands Premier League derby for these two teams and I think Leicester will be victorious. Wolves look solid in midfield and attack but I feel defensively they could be in trouble at times. After losing at Old Trafford last week, Leicester will want a win here and I think they’ll get it and I also feel that ex-Birmingham man Demarai Gray will have something to prove against his former clubs most fierce rivals.

  • Tottenham v Fulham

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 3-0 (15/2)

Anytime Goalscorer – Christian Eriksen (7/4)

Spurs earned a solid win at Newcastle last week while Fulham went down at home to Crystal Palace and I think Spurs will be celebrating once again at the end of this game. Fulham’s big spending in the summer has netted them some talented players but they are not yet a team and I think Spurs will capitalise on that and get a decent win here and I’m backing Christian Eriksen to get amongst the goals.

  • West Ham v Bournemouth

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 2-1 (17/2)

Anytime Goalscorer – Michail Antonio (11/5)

The Hammers went down to a heavy defeat at Liverpool last weekend while Bournemouth were winning, but I think at home West Ham will be strong. Their problem is they are not yet fully integrated as a team and Bournemouth could take advantage of that to perhaps snatch a goal here, but I am backing the Hammers to snatch a late win Now back fully fit, I’d back Michail Antonio to be one of their key men in front of goal this season and a goal here would set him off nicely.

  • Chelsea v Arsenal

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 3-1 (14/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Willian (15/8)

It’s been a very tough start to the season for Arsenal and I think that it will continue here against a Chelsea side that will be very happy after a 3-0 win over Huddersfield last weekend. The Gunners have a decent record over Chelsea of late, losing just one of the last eight games, but I fancy Chelsea to get a strong win here probably by a 3-1 scoreline and I think Willian will be key in this big game and grab a goal for the home side.

  • Burnley v Watford

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 1-0 (11/2)

Anytime Goalscorer – Chris Wood (7/4)

Both these teams made solid starts last weekend but I am more convinced of Burnley’s credentials for a strong season than Watford’s. Superb defensively, I can see the Burnley defence keeping Watford out meaning that one goal should be enough to get the home win and Chris Wood is the most likely Burnley player to grab that goal.

  • Manchester City v Huddersfield Town

Full Time Result – Home Win

Correct Score – 5-0 (9/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Kevin de Bruyne (6/4)

Last season Huddersfield produced a stellar performance to deny Manchester City all three points earning a 0-0 draw at the Etihad, but I can’t see David Wagner’s men enjoying the rub of the green a second time. In truth, this is a game City should win and win by a very comfortable margin, hence my score selection and if City do get goals, I think de Bruyne at 6/4 is the best priced option available.

  • Brighton v Manchester United

Full Time Result – Draw

Correct Score – 1-1 (6/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Alexis Sanchez (8/5)

Brighton produced one of their best performances of the season in the corresponding fixture between the teams last season, winning 1-0, but I can’t see Chris Hughton’s men doing the same again here. United haven’t hit top gear yet and Jose Mourinho looks somewhat unhappy in his role but I think they’ll do enough to get something from this game, but I am backing Brighton to get a point here.

  • Crystal Palace v Liverpool

Full Time Result – Away Win

Correct Score – 1-3 (11/1)

Anytime Goalscorer – Mohamed Salah (4/7)

If Liverpool are to be serious challengers to Manchester City they will know that this is a game that they must win. I think they will given how well their attacking players started the season at West Ham. Palace are always tough to beat at home and the Reds may need to ride their luck at times, but I think they’ll get a win here to get them off to a solid start and if Liverpool score, Mo Salah’s name is usually on the scorers chart.
