What is Bet365 Sprint Poker?

Bet365 Sprint Poker is a form of Speed Poker, a variant of cash table poker play that has been designed with the needs of the modern poker player in mind. In Sprint/Speed poker, when you fold out of a hand, you are immediately dealt into another with a different group of players all playing at the same stake levels of you.

Tables are organised from a large pool of players, and once a player is inactive in a hand by folding our (or being beaten at Showdown) they are dealt into a new hand immediately at a new table, with potentially new opponents.

This eliminates the ‘down time’ experienced at cash tables when a player is not involved and simply watches other players bet out and compete to win the hand. In Sprint Poker you are always constantly involved and as such, you can play a far greater number of hands in your allotted time frame as you would playing at a regular cash table.

Tables are organised based on the size of the blinds at the table and the software keeps a track of how many blinds players have paid of each type to try and ensure that all players pay a roughly similar amount when it comes to the small and big blinds.

Like a cash game, players bring a stated amount to the table with them and can leave at any time with the chips they have amassed in front of them by quitting the table.

Obviously, these changes mean that Sprint Poker is a very different type of game to regular cash tables, and this can confuse players initially, so why not give yourself a head start by taking the following tips to speedy Sprint Poker success.

  1. Play at the right stakes for your bankroll – It may seem like an obvious statement, but given that you will be playing a lot more hands, this means that you will also be paying the small/big blinds a lot more often. If you are playing at a level that eats up too much of your bankroll, those blinds start to add up quickly and can force you into acting at the table when you really don’t want to. Always take as much to the table as you can, even if that means playing at smaller blind levels.
  2. Protect your blinds against aggressive pot stealers – Because many Speed poker players will fold hands more readily than in other forms of the game (as they get dealt a new hand more quickly) some players will try to steal pots and encourage others to quit by making aggressive pre-flop raises, especially when in position. If you’ve paid the big blind and notice players making 3bb – 5bb raises often, then there’s a good chance they’ll be counting on you folding to steal the pot, so don’t be afraid to call this aggression, especially when you have decent pocket cards, or can represent such.
  3. Strategise based on your pocket cards moreso than the players at the table – In some cash table games, you can get reads on how players will act at the table and in doing so, you can effectively play the player regardless of the cards in your hand. In Sprint Poker, you may be up against hundreds of other players so reading other players is almost impossible. As such, it makes more sense to play a strategy based on the value of cards in your hand.
  4. Limping in can be a profitable way to pick up the occasional big pot – Family pots can be common when playing Sprint Poker on Bet365 and while this isn’t a great thing if you have hit a strong pocket pair, if you have little or nothing in your hand, you can get to see the flop relatively cheaply. This is a good tactic on tighter tables where players tend to call rather than raise as if you can hit a hand on the flop, you can eke more money out of those still in the hand by betting cagily to keep them in the hand, before putting in the monster raise in the hope you’ll get paid off.
  5. A tighter, aggressive strategy is usually the most effective – Of course, this isn’t always the case as it is not always the case at traditional cash game tables, but waiting for stronger hands to appear, or hitting strong hands on the flop, turn or river (provided it isn’t a huge risk to see the next card) is the best strategy for long term success at speed poker. With the ever-changing nature of your opponents, the strength of your pocket cards is key if you are to achieve long term success at this most exciting and rapid form of cash game poker.
