NFL Season Round Up Part 2 – The Race For The Playoffs

We have now reached the final four weeks of the NFL Season and there is still plenty up for grabs for 29 of the 32 teams in the NFL!

You may recall that earlier in the NFL 2022 regular season campaign, we took a look at how the NFL season had gone so far for the teams after six games or so.

Back then, the Philadelphia Eagles were flying high with the only 100% winning record in the league, but the likes of the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings were amongst the teams doing their best to chase down the team from the city of brotherly love.

Other teams like the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders were struggling for some form.

However, things have changed a lot since then and with 14 weeks of action now completed in the regular season, there are just four more weeks of action until the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.

Remember, you can enjoy extensive  NFL betting across the remainder of the season and throughout the playoffs through to the Super Bowl with bet365 Sport.

It is worth noting that from Week 15 through to Week 18, all teams will be playing their final four games of the season as all teams have now had their Bye Week.

*The Philadelphia Eagles are the only team to have confirmed themselves a place in the playoffs as of Week 14.

NFL Playoff Standings After Week 14

Currently, the NFL records of the teams would see the following teams qualify for the playoffs in the following seeding positions.

The top seed receives a bye into the second round of playoff games, while the remaining six seeds in each conference will face off on Wildcard Weekend in the following series of games:

  • Seed #7 @ Seed #2
  • Seed #6 @ Seed #3
  • Seed #5 @ Seed #4

NFC Playoff Picture

  1. Philadelphia Eagles – 12-1
  2. Minnesota Vikings – 10-3
  3. San Francisco 49ers – 9-4
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 6-7
  5. Dallas Cowboys – 10-3
  6. Washington Commanders – 7-5-1
  7. New York Giants – 7-5-1

In Contention – Seattle Seahawks – 7-6, Detroit Lions – 6-7

AFC Playoff Standings After Week 14

  1. Buffalo Bills – 10-3
  2. Kansas City Chiefs – 10-3
  3. Baltimore Ravens – 9-4
  4. Tennessee Titans – 7-6
  5. Cincinnati Bengals – 9-4
  6. Miami Dolphins – 8-5
  7. New England Patriots – 7-6

In Contention – Los Angeles Chargers – 7-6, New York Jets – 7-6

With four games still to go, so much can change with the playoff spots over that time and teams that currently have even a 5-8 record could push themselves into playoff contention with a good run of wins over the next few weeks.

Only three teams are eliminated from playoff contention at present – the Houston Texans (1-11-1), Chicago Bears (3-10) and Denver Broncos (3-10)

Let’s now take a look at how each of the division’s teams have performed from Week 6 through Week 14, with a look at the teams in form and those struggling over that period.

NFC North – Vikings One Win Away

With a 10-3 record, the Minnesota Vikings are just one win away from ensuring they win the NFC North and claim a playoff spot. They will surely get that in one of their four remaining games.

While the Packers and Bears have struggled for form over the last couple of months, the Detroit Lions have found some great form to win five of their six games over that period to move into contention for a playoff spot, if they can continue that run of excellent form over the remaining weeks of the season.

NFC West – 49ers Take Control

In the NFC West, as the Seahawks, Cardinals and Rams have fallen away, the San Francisco 49ers have found great form to take full control of the division and they are now in a great position to win the division. The Seahawks still have realistic playoff hopes but will need to win at least two, if not three of their remaining four to earn a post-season berth.

NFC East – No Losing Records In NFL’s Toughest Division

What a division this has turned out to be. The Eagles are already in the playoffs and the Dallas Cowboys will likely join them in the next week or so, depending on results. However, the Commanders and Giants both have winning records and are the other two playoff seeds as things stand. That may change with a number of inter-divisional games over the next couple of weeks, but I reckon at least three teams from this division will qualify for the playoffs.

NFC South – Tampa Top But This Division Is Still Anybody’s To Win

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers record would see them 4th of the NFC East, but it tops the NFC South. The weakest division in this conference is still wide open with any of the four teams able to win the division and clinch a playoff spot if they can put together a run of wins over the last four weeks of the season. Whether they can or not, remains to be seen.

Playoff Predictions – NFC – 1. Philadelphia Eagles (15-2), 2. San Francisco 49ers (13-4), 3. Minnesota Vikings (12-5), 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-9), 5. Dallas Cowboys (13-4), 6. Washington Commanders (9-7-1), 7. Seattle Seahawks (9-8)

AFC North – Ravens and Bengals Set For Four-Week Showdown

The race for the AFC North looks to be a straight run between the Ravens and Bengals. The Ravens have, once again, been beset with injuries and I think that makes them the second favourites here. I think the Bengals are hitting great form and with top players coming back from injury and Joe Burrow once again in great form, I think they will claim the top spot with the Ravens a shoe in for the playoffs.

AFC West – Chiefs Look Set To Top Division, Chargers Face Battle For Playoffs

This was supposed to be the toughest division in football but once again it has turned into a procession for the Chiefs. A couple more wins will ensure they top the division and that looks more a formality than a challenge. More intriguing may be the Chargers attempts to qualify for the playoffs as they sit just outside of them at the moment and need a fine run in if they are to steal a playoff spot from one of the AFC East teams.

AFC East – Bills Set To Top Division But All 3 Other Teams In Playoff Contention

The toughest division in the AFC sees the Bills, as expected, top the division and currently they hold the top seed spot in the AFC due to their win over the Chiefs earlier in the season. I’d expect the Bills to hold onto that spot and win this division, but all three of the other teams, Dolphins, Jets and Patriots do have genuine playoff hopes.

AFC South – Titans Miserable Form Offers Jags Feint Playoff Hopes

A few weeks ago, the Tennessee Titans were 7-3 and looking like they could perhaps challenge for the top seed in the AFC once again. Now they are 7-6 and grimly hanging on to top spot in the worst division in the NFL. A miserable defeat to the Jaguars at the weekend has handed the Jags an unlikely lifeline in the AFC South, but it would take a massive turnaround in form for them to grasp it and pip the Titans to top spot.

Playoff Predictions – AFC – 1. Buffalo Bills (13-4), 2. Kansas City Chiefs (13-4), 3. Cincinnati Bengals (13-4), 4. Tennessee Titans (9-8), 5. Baltimore Raves (11-6), 6. Miami Dolphins (10-7), 7. Los Angeles Chargers (9-8).
