Preview of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023
It all starts on 10 February
Our preview of the Women’s T20 World Cup can officially reveal that the action starts on 10 February 2023. This is later than initially planned, though!
It was originally supposed to take place towards the end of 2022. But because of the 2022 Qatar World Cup was also unfolding around then, it was decided the sporting world’s focus would be too split. Better to give the T20 its own spotlight.
In total, there’s going to be 16 days of cricket action. The finals take place on 26 February 2023.
All eyes on South Africa
South Africa is the lucky hosting nation for the eight iteration of the Women’s T20 World Cup. And it plans to go all out. Hosting across three different cities and three different stadiums, cricket fans are going to get to see a lot of the country. Cape Town, Gqebera and Paarl will all play their part.
The biggest stadium is the 25,000-seater Newlands Cricket Ground, which will also host the finals. Exciting stuff!
What countries have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2023?
There are a total of 10 teams taking part in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. They’re split into two groups: Group A and Group B.
In Group A, we have host nation South Africa, defending champs Australia, as well as New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the playoff qualifiers Bangladesh.
Group B features playoff qualifiers Ireland, as well as the West Indies, England, Pakistan and India.
It looks to us like Group A will be the tougher group, but as we all know, with cricket, you can never really tell until the team walks onto the grounds what way it’ll go. All we can really tell you with this preview of the Women’s T20 World Cup is the whens, wheres and whos, not the what will transpire.
